Placed intentionally far from other cities in the congested south east, the New Town of Milton Keynes sprung up in the 60's during a spate of intense urban expansion.
Due to its unusual conception, the city is unlike the traditional historic towns that England is famous for, but its modern design and layout hasn't put potential residents off: the population has trebled since Milton Keynes came into being and is expected to continue to rise. One reason for this may be that Milton Keynes' Parks Trust has created an environment that is unusually lush and green for a city of its size.
Based around Midsummer Boulevard in the city centre, the central shopping precinct is massive and packed with all the high-street names any shop-a-holic could possibly need, as well as a wide range of clubs, bars and theatres.
